Live Music
An island legend, Audy performs acoustic music Wednesday through Saturday evenings at Hy’s Steak House from 6:30 to 10:00 PM.
Composer/Singer Audy Kimura is an unlikely musician. He graduated in the top 2% of his class from the University of Hawai‘i-Manoa’s College of Business Administration where he won the highest academic award given by the college, The Outstanding Senior in the College of Business and also the coveted Outstanding Senior in Marketing awards. He declined a scholarship to earn an M.B.A. at Northwestern University’s prestigious Kellogg School of Management in order to pursue a career in music and has never looked back.
He is one of the few Hawai‘i artists to earn a major international recording contract (with Universal Music and Epic/Sony) and has performed nationally in the U.S. and Japan.
Audy has produced, composed and engineered 3 award winning albums and his signature #1 song “Lovers & Friends.” Although best known as a musician, he is very involved in marketing–having written and produced 7 national TV commercials in Japan for clients such as NEC Computer, Toyota, Hasegawa Komuten, Dentsu and most recently 7-Eleven Japan’s national TV commercial music, each one seen and heard by millions of viewers.
Locally, he composes, performs and produces news and station music for KGMB 9 TV (CBS) including the signature “One of the Good Things About Hawai‘i,” theme songs for OC16’s “Hawaii Goes Fishing,” and co-composed the original score for the critically acclaimed Sundance Film Festival selection “The Land Has Eyes” in 2004. In 2006, Audy made his debut as a video Producer/Director creating commercials and long-form videos for KITV (ABC Hawaii), Shriners Hospital for Children and others.
In addition to his 8 Na Hoku awards which include Male Vocalist of the Year and Composer of the Year, he has won 7 national awards for video scoring including the U.S. International Film & Video Festival 1st Place Gold Camera, Silver Screen and Hometown Video Festival, Telly Finalist. In 1998, Audy was inducted into Marquis’ Who’s Who In Entertainment In America. His guitar playing has earned him sponsorships from guitar manufacturers Washburn and Godin.
Audy started his musical career at Sounds of Hawai‘i studio where he was Don Ho’s recording engineer and in 1994, Audy was appointed as the Consultant for Acoustics & Sound System Design by the Hawai‘i Convention Center and remained until its completion.
He has also completed 2 Honolulu Marathons, the 5 Mile Invitational Ocean Swim, the 100 mile Century Bicycle Ride, placed 2nd in his class at the National Rifle Championships and was an Aloha State Games medalist and earned a AA rating (highest classification) in skeet shooting.
Audy celebrated his 20th anniversary at Hy’s Steak House in June 2007 and call his performances there “my therapy.”
